On 9th April 2015 I was invited to attend a Customer Experience of Office 365 at Microsoft HQ in Edinburgh. This was organised by Alan Wood who has responsibility in Microsoft for Education in Scotland.
I particularly enjoyed learning more about Skype for Business and thinking about how this could be used in Primary School. My generation are very comfortable with email, however the younger generation we are teaching do not share our love of email. They think it is out-dated and prefer more instant forms of communication, such as Facetime, Instant Messenger, Instagram. Skype for Business is the modern way to communicate and that’s what we need to teach our young people as that’s the present and future of communication in the world of work we are preparing them for.
Afterwards Alan took us up to the rooftop of the building where we could see the views over Edinburgh. It is quite a view! Then we met up with Ian Stuart from Education Scotland, responsible for Glow. He took us to a local treasure for dinner and we had a good informal, unplanned teach meet! Did you know that there is a facility within Word which helps you with referencing? Every day is a school day when you meet with Ian!
